Alec designs fine and functional art pieces using 3D Computer Aided Design software and computational design practices and then makes his designs real using digital fabrication techniques, primarily laser cutting. Alec creates both limited edition artwork as well as open edition pieces in a variety of styles. He also creates digital artworks that never make the leap off the computer.
Alec gets inspiration for his work from a variety of sources including abstract art, mathematics and nature-inspired patterns, and patterns from various cultural traditions. He completes his designs primarily in Rhinoceros 3D CAD software, sometimes incorporating generative elements using Grasshopper or Processing. He went to school for civil engineering and now works in technology, so his art practice allows him to combine his different interests into a unique style.
Alec’s art practice started in 2019 when he became a member at his local makerspace. He immediately fell in love with the laser cutter and couldn't stop coming up with ideas of things to create. He continued to learn new techniques and eventually got his own laser cutter to bring his designs to life. He does a lot of experimentation and strives to make unique items that are unlike anything people have seen before. https://www.alecdanaher.com/
